He took our place in the reality of sufferings.

We enter the passion week, and we should not be unmoved by the poignant sufferings of Christ who has to embrace the path of excruciating pains beyond all telling for the purpose of redemption.

They nailed him on a cross

They nailed him on a cross for me

One day that I was lost, they nailed Him on a cross

They nailed Him on a cross for me.

They bruised him on a cross.

They bruised him on a cross for me.

One day that I was lost, they bruised him on a cross

They bruised him on a cross for me

They insulted him on a cross.

They insulted him on a cross for me.

One day that I was lost, they insulted him on a cross

They insulted him on a cross for me.

They killed him on a cross

They killed him on a cross for me

One day that I was lost, they killed on a cross.

They killed him on a cross for me.

Christ sufferings are principally focused on taking our place in the reality of atonement for our grievous sins and shortcomings. He must embrace the path of passion so that our offences and sins can be atoned for and we get the grace of sanctification that renews us and cleanses us of sins. We remain eternally grateful to Christ who has to become the vicarious lamb that has to take away our sins by his passion.

The consciousness that the passion of Christ is wholly vicarious, that is, Christ has to undertake the unimaginable sufferings and cruelty for our sake, will lead to a better appreciation of the passion week, leading us to a deep sense of remorse and deeper reflection of the total love of God for us and how we need to keep responding with true sense of surrender to His loving plan for us which embraces a sincere effort to overcome sinful experiences and disposition. By His passion and excruciating pains, we are thoroughly washed and healed of our infirmities.

We need to spend serious time, reflecting on the reality of Christ’s passion so as to stop nagging over our little inconveniences, as though we are not sensitive to the reality of Christ taking our place in the reality of atonement for our sins. A deeper reflection on the nature of Christ passion will create a better disposition to responding to faith options and demands which at times go with sacrifices, inconveniences and self-denial.
